The coat of arms of Villanueva was taken from a design on stone in the doorways of the western side of the Benito Juárez park. Author and date of creation unknown. At the top, a shell recognizing the name Chicomotzoc (place of seven caves) through its seven stripes; it remembers the La Quemada archaeological site. In the center, over a sun remembering its solar eclipses, a fan recognizing the creation of a new culture. Over it is a Phrygian cap of liberty. Under this is the National Eagle over a cactus on water. having a wreath signifying victory surround it. Indigenous weapons: bow, club, cane, and quiver are seen. These elements are enclosed in an arch. At the bottom in a separate compartment is a caduceus, flanked by figures appearing to carry flowers.
