Coat of Arms

The coat of arms of Fronteras was adopted in 1983 after a call from the governor for all municipalities to have a coat of arms. Description according to the Encyclopedia of Municipalities and Delegations:

The coat of arms shares likeness to the coat of arms of the state of Sonora, to which the municipality pertains. In the central part, it is divided into three parts, with the colors of the national emblem: green, white, and red. It has a brown stripe in the periphery with the name of Santa Rosa de Corodehuachi, as it was known in the time of the conquest, in which it was declared a presidio; it is represented in the upper part by an adobe wall, with a door which gives the appearance of an arrowhead and represents the distinctive fights between the Spanish and naturals which form the Creole race and to our days populate the municipality. In the upper left quadrant, with a green background, agriculture is represented, one of the principal sources of the economy, along with wheat...with a sickle. In the upper right quadrant, with a white background; it is embodied with the head of a bull and horse, the principal source of wealth which is cattle-raising. Included in the same space is a torch and a book which represents education, preoccupation of all inhabitants of the municipality.

The red field, meanwhile, clearly represents mining with the shovel and pickaxe on a mound of ore.
