Gujo was formed on 1 March 2004 by a merger of the seven towns and
villages of Gujo district.
The emblem, a stylised G, is made up of a green crescent, a blue three
sided figure and an orange circle. The blue and orange together look like
an image of a person, which according to Notice 250, represents brightly
healthy citizens. The large spreading green ring brings up abundant nature
and harmonised history and culture, portraying Gujo facing a bright
future.
Order 59 deals with the use of the emblem (permission must be obtained for
the mayor, and modification and commercial or confusing use are not
allowed) and the flag. The flag must not be flown so as to disgrace the
flag, and should be flown according to convention.

The flag of the former town of Hachiman was white with mark. The town is now,
from 2004, part of the city of Gujo.
