The Duboković Nadalini family, Ivan and his son Niko, was an influential family in Jelsa on the island of Hvar. Establishing the company in 1851, they built the port of Jelsa and its merchant fleet. The company performed the training of cadets for the Trieste Naval Academy and maintained the largest sailship merchant fleet in Dalmatia; some of their ships navigated also over the Atlantic. Both father and son were also politically active and both were mayors in their time. Niko established the Croatian reading-club in Jelsa. The company was nationalized after 1945.

The house flag of Duboković, as shown by Isaić [isa01] for the interbellum period, is horizontally divided blue-red the white the white monogramm "NAD".
However, the member of the Duboković family who keeps records of the family tradition does not remember ever seeing such a flag, and has documentation that the Duboković ships always used the Croatian tricolour as their house flag. An emblem similar to the monogram was used as a metal ornament on the funnel of the steamships. I suspect that the flag shown by Isaić may be the flag used after the First World War, in Yugoslavia, when showing of the Croatian tricolour was not encouraged, if not explicitly forbidden.
Apart from the usual house flag, the company also had a beautiful ceremonial flag that was used for festivities and when important guests were on board. The flag was added the family coat of arms in canton; it is preserved in the family archives in Jelsa.
