The former municipality of Asklipieio (seat at Lygourio, Λυγουριό, 2,678 inh.) is named for the sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus, which is situated on its territory. The ancient theater of Epidaurus, one of the best preserved in Greece, is famous for its excellent acoustics.
The flag of the former municipality of Asklipeío was dark blue with its emblem, including a representation of the ancient theater of Epidaurus and of God Asklepios (Kokkonis website).
