Shield Vert, a lion rampant guardant Or, armed and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
The arms are known already since the 14th century and display a differentiation of the lion of the Counts of Schwarzburg-Blankenburg, who ruled the city for a long time. The pattern changed various times in minor details. Around 1920 the posture was just rampant and the lion had a red coronet upon his head.
