Please note that acc. to §2(2) of the local Hauptsatzung, version 30 January 2006, flag (and banner) should be white-red instead (see right images above). In case of the banner the colours of the stripes of flag and the fields of arms then would be counterchanged, which is usual. Photos available (e.g. this image ) display however the order as described above (see left images above).

Wusterhausen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules a demi-eagle Argent couped per pale, at sinister Argent a demi-fleur-de-lis Gules
Meaning:
Theodor Fontane wrote in "Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg" vol.1: "What nevertheless remained, is told quickly. In the 12th and 13th century Wusterhausen belonged to the Plotho kin, whose castle stood in front of the Kyritz Gate (Kyritzer Tor). Its ruins were recognisable until the end of the last century [editorial note: the 18th century], now just the "city wall". Beside these remains nothing but the city arms reminds on this earliest historical era: the fleur-de-lis of Plotho halved by the Markian eagle." Fontane describes however the old arms used in the 19th century. They displayed at dexter in a white (silver) field a red demi-eagle couped per pale, and at sinister a yellow (golden) demi-fleur-de-lis in a red field. The city became a dominion of the Counts of Ruppin in the 14th century. Otto Hupp displayed the current pattern in 1925, displaying a demi-eagle of Ruppin instead with a fleur-de-lis leashed white.

The fleur-de-lis of the Plotho family occurs on a couple of more flags and coats of arms in the area (northern Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt, like in Elbe-Parey , Jerichow-Kade, Kyritz and the county of Ostprignitz-Ruppin. However, the colours of these lilies differ in the different arms.
