Tengen Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, an unicorn rampant Argent, in sinister base superimposed by an inescutcheon Argent, charged with a throughout cross patty Sable.
Meaning:
Tengen was (re-)established in 1876, when Tengen-Dorf (village), Tengen-Stadt (city) and Tengen-Hinterburg (behind the castle) merged. Tengen-Hinterburg gained city rights in 1291. It was acquired by Habsburg in 1305 and by the Teutonic Order in 1488. It was the only settlement having proper seals in the Habsburgian era, displaying the Habsburg lion, flanked by two distinguishing annulets. The merged city adopted different arms in 1902, displaying only the unicorn of the Lords of Tengen, the first known local rulers. The city incorporated various municipalities between 1963 and 1974, all had once belonged to the Teutonic Order. The inescutcheon of the Teutonic Order was added in 1976.
