Höxter County Coat of Arms

Shield enhanced parted by a fess wavy Azure, above Or parted by a cross gules, beneath Argent a fleur de lis Azure.
Meaning:
The coat of arms connects elements of the coats of arms of the former counties of Höxter and Warburg, the latter joined the new Höxter County. The cross is taken from the coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Paderborn. The fleur de lis is taken from the arms of former Warburg County. The fess wavy is symbolising the Weser River. The colours red and gold are those of the archbishopric and the Imperial Abbey of Corvey as well.

Höxter County Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Gules parted by a cross Or, beneath Or a bar wavy Azure.
Meaning:
The bar wavy is representing the Weser River, being the eastern border of the county. The cross is representing the Archbishops of Paderborn, former rulers of nearly the whole county until 1802. Its tinctures are those of the Benedictine Imperial Abbey of Corvey, founded by Emperor Ludwig the Pious in 823 and upgraded to a bishopric in 1792. The abbot was ruler of the city of Höxter and a few surroundings. The collegiate church of Corvey Abbey with its famous western façade is one of the oldest buildings in Northern Germany.
