Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent a throughout cross Sable, at sinister Gules, a triplemount issuant, issuant from mount a lily shrub Vert with three blossoms Argent.
Meaning:
The arms are a combination of the cross of Fulda Abbey and the symbol of the patron saint of abbey and city, St. Simplicius. The oldest known seal of the city, testified in 1331 but probably older, displays an abbott on a throne, at his feet a shield with the three lilies rising from a hill. A later seal displays only the patron saint, and in the 17th century he was displayed holding a banner with a cross. The above arms with cross and lilies were adopted in the 19th century. The combination of both first appeared on a banner of the abbey in 1300, but had never been used before as arms of either the abbey or the city.

Meaning:
The cross is referring to the Abbey of Fulda.
