Presentation of Petrovac

The municipality of Petrovac is formed from the parts of the previous municipality of Bosanski Petrovac that were incorporated to Republika Srpska. The seat of the municipal administration is in the village of Drinić, which was in 1942/43 the printing site of Borba, the main newspapers of Tito's partisan movement.

Flag of Petrovac

The symbols of Petrovac were adopted on 11 July 2011. The symbols were designed by Father Deacon Nenad M. Jovanović, as the herald, and Nebojša Dikić, as the artist, from the Heraldic and Genealogic Studies Board of the Centre for Research of Orthodox Monarchism. The design follows the basic guidelines for the design of modern municipal coats of arms in Serbia and Republika Srpska edicted by the Serbian Heraldry Society.
The flag is square, vertically divided red-blue with an edelweiss flower in the middle.

The colours of the flag are a straightforward reference to the Serbian tricolour.
The edelweiss represents the surrounding mountains, in particular Mount Klekovača, and the forest reservation of Lom-Klekovača (protected since 1956).

Coat of arms of Petrovac

The lesser coat of arms of Petrovac is "Gules a horse rampant or surrounded with three edelweiss flowers proper".
The middle coat of arms is topped with a simple masoned silver crown without embattlements, and includes a golden ribbon with the name of the municipality.
The greater coat of arms includes also supporters standing on a mountainous compartment with coniferous trees and snow-topped peaks, two winged oxes segreant or, dexter holding the flag of Republika Srpska, sinister the flag of Petrovac.

The horse is a symbol of wood exploitation - horses are still used for extracting timbers from "wild" woods that are impenetrable by modern mechanized vehicles. There is also a local custom of competition demonstrating the strength of the horses.
The winged oxes refer to the patron saint of Petrovac, St. Luke.
