Nevesinje got a new coat of arms of the municipality after five years since
the Constitutional Court of the RS abolished the previous symbols and decided
that the old look of this symbol is not in accordance with the Constitution of
the RS. The new municipal symbols, coat of arms and flag, which symbolize the
historical, cultural and natural heritage of the municipality of Nevesinje, were
adopted by the Statutory Decision on establishing the symbol of the municipality
of Nevesinje at the 13th regular session of the Municipal Assembly, held on
December 28, 2017. The author of the symbol is the heraldist Dragomir Acović
from Belgrade.

The symbols of Nevesinje (images) are prescribed in Article 7 of the Municipal Statutes Statut Opštine Nevesinje, adopted on 1 July 2005 by the Municipal Council and published on 7 July 2005 in the Municipal official gazette Službeni glasnik opštine Nevesinje, No. 6.
The flag (photo, photo [table flag]) is described as follows:
The flag is rectangular, set horizontally, in proportions 2:3. At the bottom of the flag - 1/4 of the height of the flag is a field coloured celestial blue (SKY BLU) on which there is the symbol of Mount Velež mountain with two hills golden, in the centre of that symbol is a symbol of an old town, and above there is a laid-down rifle golden.

The coat of arms of Nevesinje, adopted on 7 April 1999, is prescribed in Article 7 of the Statutes as follows:
The base of the coat of arms is a shield, rounded at the bottom, in proportions 3:4, in the CMYK colour palette. The basic shield is celestial blue (SKY BLU) and in its lower part is a red (RED) shield of the same shape and proportions as the basic shield, in which is a white cross with four white firesteels; at the flanks of this shield is a coloured drawing of an oak with acorns. In the centre of the basic shield is a symbolic representation of Mount Velež mountain and two hills on its sides. The colour of this application is blue (BLU), above the mountains are two white crossed rifles. At the top of the basic shield is a red (RED) ribbon set in a semi-circle, in which white letters - Miroslavljevo [a font type, based on 12th century Cyrillic manuscript "Miroslav Gospel", deemed the most important Serbian Cyrillic document - the ceremonial flam of Serbian inscriptions as a rule follow this typeface] - inscribe Nevesinje. The width of the ribbon is 1/8 of the width of the basic shield.
The depictions of the coat of arms in use show white oak branches, but also a small Serbian tricolour between the ribbon and the shield, which is not mentioned in the description.
The designer of the coat of arms, Miroslav Bovan, an artist from Trebinje, explains (article) that the inescutcheon states that the territory was historically part of the Nemanjić state. "The oak with acorns is a symbol of life and joy, while Mount Velež shields and protects Nevesinje. The rifles symbolize the freedom-loving traditions of this town in Herzegovina."

Dispute on the coat of arms
Trebinje danas, 27 April 2010, reports (article) the initiative of a Bosniak group, who officially challenged the consitutionality of the coat of arms (considering it represents only one of the three nations of Bosnia, which is against the State legislation - just as in so many examples in the current local symbol in the entire country).
The leader of the local veterans' organization is reported to be strongly against any change, expressing a quite typical view of "misunderstanding the others": "The coat of arms represents the municipality of Nevesinje and
symbolizes its history through ages. I do not know who could find that
offending." The Mayor stated that the coat of arms shall be firmly in use
until the Constitutional Court states otherwise, and that it was selected through a public contest (implying that it makes it all right).

The coat of arms of Nevesinje was declared illegal by the Constitutional Court of Republika Srpska (Nezavisne novine, 20 February 2013).
