The letter "G" on the coat of arms refers to the older German variants of the name, like Geuss,
Gews, Goiss, Geoys. The cherries stand for the "Joiser Herzkirsche", a special sub-species of the
wild cherry or sweet cherry (Prunus avium), which originated here.
There seems to be no standard version of the arms, whose elements and colours are given, but not determined
in detail. The version on the former communal website resembles strongly to the version of the flag
manufacturer Fahnen Gärtner; but the versions on the flag in front of the town hall, on the town hall
itself and on Wikimedia have their own style. On all versions the letter "G" is drawn in hand-made
style.
