La Paz is a department located in the south of Catamarca Province in Argentina.

The Municipality of Recreo is the
seat of the Department of La Paz. Its symbols were adopted in 1986:
Its
unusual shield is the original creation of Segundo Felindor Pineda, and was
approved by the local Deliberative Council on December 19, 1986 by means of CDMR
Ordinance No. 052/86. Its heraldic form is Polish in style; divided into strips
and divided into seven fields in total.
"On the chief's sash, the first
cut upper tapestry of lower azure of its color, with two mountains on the
horizon and a wheel with eight spokes gules. The second with a dry tree of its
color and a saber cross on the left on a tapestry of its color. The third
similar to the first with the saber wheel on a log of the same.
In the strip
in the right canton four leafed trees of green trunks of their color on a
tapestry of their color.
In the heart the profile of a factory gules with two
smoking chimneys of saber.
The sinister canton with an irregular silver stain
on a sable tapestry.
At the tip there is a strip of azure and silver .
At
the bell, a golden rising sun with thirteen rays of different lengths, which
decrease from the center to the sides."
The symbology of the shield,
according to the same source, but with a text evidently written by the author of
the shield or at least by natives of Recreo:
"Its shape is that of a
Polish shield; It was chosen because the Holy Father John Paul II, a native of
Poland, wants and seeks Peace so much, and since we live in the Department of La
Paz , that was the reason for the choice.
The chief's dexter canton
represents the passing of the carts, a big part of our history. It is here where
the passengers recreated and the animals were changed, hence the old or first
name of our town El Recreo de las Carretas. When it rained a lot in Las Salinas
and became impassable, they would stay for several days, not missing big dances
and barbecues. In the background our beloved hill.
In the center of the
boss there is a dry tree and a cross, which symbolizes the old black carob tree
where Fray Mamerto Esquiú died on January 10, 1883
In the sinister canton of the chief, the wheel of a
woodshed represents the very birth of the town, since with the arrival of the
first train and as there was no founding document, the year 1875 was the birth
of Recreo.
On the right flank there is a forest: it symbolizes the raw
material most coveted by man in the area, firewood and charcoal; These turned
the Department of La Paz into an unbeatable market .
On the sinister
flank the leather symbolizes cattle and goats since it has great importance in
the economy of the area.
In the center, the profile of a factory
represents the modern industries located in our jurisdiction.
In the
center of the tip, the national flag.
The thirteen rays of the sun represent the districts into which the Department
is divided, while the blue part that separates the cantons represents the
irrigation canal of the Bazán River.
The local flag has three vertical
stripes of green, white and yellow, with the municipal shield in the center of
the white field.

The Municipality of Icano, in the Department of La Paz, introduced its municipal
flag during the celebration of the 248th Anniversary of the town foundation on
4th of November 2019.
It is vertically divided in three fields
white-blue-green, with symbolic two hands and a white dove in the blue field
