About the district

The municipality of General Alvarado (34,391 inhabitants in 2001; 1,599 ha), created on 29 September 1891, is located on the Atlantic Ocean, in the Province of Buenos Aires, 480 km south of the city of Buenos Aires. The capital of the municipality is the town of Miramar (24,317 inh.), locally known as "The Town of Children and Bicycles" and famous for its sand beaches.

Flag contest

On 27 October 2009, the municipal administration of General Alvarado launched a contest for the municipal flag. The deadline for proposal submission is 14 December 2009.

The flag has a broad outer green border inside which is a stylized sun on the horizon, with the sun yellow, edged orange; the horizon represented by blue-light green-dark green-dull blue-dark blue bands, each of which curves around the base of the sun. In front of the sun is a white bird in flight.
