The Communauté de communes du Nord de Mayotte was established on December 31, 2015 and includes 4 communes: Acoua, Bandraboua, Koungou, Mtsamboro. This legally mandatory creation met with hostility from the communes of Acoua, Bandraboua and Mtsamboro who refused to appoint their community representatives. The election of the first president in February 2017, made at the initiative of the mayor of Koungou, was invalidated in October by the Conseil d'Etat (French supreme court for administrative justice). The 2020 municipal and community elections allowed the election of community councilors in each of the communes
and the meeting of the community council.
On January 1, 2021, the Northern Mayotte Community of Communes became an agglomeration community under the new name of the Communauté d'agglomération du Grand Nord de Mayotte.

SIDEVAM 976

The Syndicat Intercommunal d’Elimination et de Valorisation des Déchets de Mayotte (Intercommunal Syndicate for the Elimination and Recovery of Waste in Mayotte - SIDEVAM 976) is a public intercommunal cooperation institution that ensures the collection and treatment of waste in Mayotte. SIDEVAM 976 was created on January 28, 2014 by prefectural decree no. 2014/1068. It brings together the 5 inter-municipal structures of the territory of Mayotte. It ensures the collection of waste for 4 of them, i.e. across the entire island except in the Cadema (Dembéni and Mamoudzou). The waste treatment competence concerns the entire department.
