This pennant, white over blue with a red D, is the burgee of the Detroit Boat Club, the oldest rowing club in the United States, founded 1839.

The club describes themselves as "The Oldest Yachting Club in the Americas". While that is in itself correct, it should be noted that they are the Oldest Club in the Americas that is now a Yachting Club, the difference, and the reason why we described them merely as "the oldest rowing club in the United States", is that while they are now a Yachting Club, when they were founded in 1839, they were a rowing club.

The burgee of the Detroit Boat Club shows differently on its merchandise and on its own emblem. It seems that that actual item is faithfully shown on the former items, and unexpectedly so, judging from this photo of an actual flag: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/44/af/63/44af637e2d7f27b60a0feb5b50079b5a.jpg
