Description of the flag

The flag is a white field. at the top of the flag is a yellow outline of West Virginia with black borders. Under the outline is the city and state name. In the center of the white field is a horizontally stretched black ring with four different symbols which are based on the city seal. A crossed pick and axe, an hourglass, an anchor, and a ramp. Inside the oval is the incorporation year of 1901. Under emblem is the city motto "The City Merry on the Banks of the Cherry", referencing the city's location on the Cherry River.

Seal

The seal is made of a series of white and orange rings. On one of the rings is the city and state name inscribed on it. In the center is a secondary emblem which uses a white ring with an outer rope ring. On the ring is the city motto inscribed on it. In the center of the emblem is a variety of symbols which reflects the city's history.
