Description of the flag

The flag is a vertical tribar of blue-white-gold. In the center is the state outline of West Virginia. Overlying the state outline at the northern panhandle is a golden star, which represents the location of the city. On ether side of the star is the city name, which is split by the northern panhandle. At southern portions of the outline is the state name, split by the border with Virginia.

Earlier Seal

An earlier version shows an all white and black seal. The state name and motto are inscribed on the rings instead of the city and state name. In the center is the state outline with the only semblance of color is the city initials.
