The ring has the county's establishment year at the top, and the state name on the bottom. On either side of the ring are mirrored indian arrowheads for the indigenous Americans who used to reside around the area. In between the arrowheads is a bar crossing the seal which bears the county name. In the center of the seal is a triangle which splits the seal into four parts. Inside the triangle are numerous objects. These include a scroll,  and a set of books, one of which has "LMU," which are the initials for Lincoln Memorial University, and represents education. Next to the books are a fish, a plant and a set of three pine trees. all of which represent nature. Left of the triangle is a cow next to a silo for agriculture, and a chimney building possibly from a mill of some sort. To the right of the triangle is an old riffle leaning on a plant. under the triangle is a railroad track, along with a crossed shovel and pickaxe with a lump of coal beneath, representing the mining industry.
