Description of the Flag

The city of Apopka launched a flag contest on August 8, 2024, and after 5 weeks more than 150 designs were submitted. Of these designs, 71 were submitted to a panel of judges, which included a local artist, a design school teacher, a marketing specialist, a contest administrator, and 3 members of NAVA. The panel selected 10 designs, which were voted upon for 2 weeks by more than 1000 members of the public.
The winning flag was designed by Faith Lee, an Apopka native and an art and music teacher of Apopka Christian Academy. The colors of the flag are green for life prosperity and growth; yellow for the sun, prosperity, and optimism; and blue for tranquility, harmony, the sky, and water. The white at the bottom of the flag symbolizes the peaceful community. The lines on the flag move organically to represent the plants and wildlife of Apopka. The blue lines represent Rock and Wekiva Springs, and the yellow lines represent the sun, upon which greenhouses depend, and Apopka being part of the Sunshine State. The philodendron leaf forms an “A” for “Apopka” and presents a plant that is often grown in greenhouses. The flag, Apopka’s first official flag, was adopted on October 16, 2024.
