Coat of Arms

[Moura Morta commune CoA (until 2013)] image by António Martins-Tuválkin and Sérgio Horta, 24 July 2024

Shield Argent an increscent Gules, on dexter chief a cross of the Order of Christ, on sinister chief a cross of the Order of Malta fimbriated Gules, issuant from base barruly wavy of four of Argent and Azure a triplemount Vert. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "MOURA MORTA – PESO DA RÉGUA".
Meaning:
The phrase "moura morta" means "dead Mooress" and this distasteful toponym is elegantly made canting in the arms by means of the increscent — cp. _alas_ the municipal arms of Moura, where a "livelier" toponym is made canting with a very graphic armourial representation of the same subject.
