It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of yellow and green.

Shield Vert, four charges set in cross, in central chief a windmill's wheel Or rigged Argent, at dexter a pair of quicklime whitewashing paintbrushes Argent crossed per saltire,
at sinister a bunch of grapes Or leafed Argent, in base a bird Or garnished Sable, perhaps an oriole.
Mural crown Argent (town rank) with four visible towers and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE GAEIRAS" or simply, as on flag, "GAEIRAS
Meaning:
These arms are partly canting as the bird is a jay (Portuguese: gaio) and the word "gaeiras" can be interpreted to signify places where jays can be found.

Gaeiras is one of the six communes of Óbidos Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes; it had 2 363 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 10,31 km².
