Shield Or two swords inverted Sable with sheaths Azure and garnished Argent set saltirewise, in chief an open book Argent bound Gules, on a mound Vert issuant from base a pile reversed Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters AREEIRO - LISBOA.
    Meaning:
The mound comes from the arms of former Alto do Pina Commune and the swords are from former São João de Deus Commune. The pile Or is a canting element, as it represents a stylised sand pile in reference to the toponym: "areeiro" means "sandpit".
The draft of both symbols was made by Eduardo Brito and Sérgio Horta´.
