Coat of Arms

[Lagarinhos commune CoA (until 2013)] image by António Martins-Tuválkin and Sérgio Horta, 12 Feb 2025

Shield Argent a wine press Gules, flanked in chief by two olive twigs Vert fruited Sable, base wavy Azure semy of wavelets Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "LAGARINHOS".
Meaning:
These arms are partly canting, as this toponym is the hypochoristic plural of "lagar", meaning "press", as in either "wine press" or "olive press". Given the olives also in the arms, one would think it is meant to be the latter, but the blazon states clearly "prensa de vinho". The word "prensa" means "press" proper, while "lagar" refers to the whole facility, albeit often means also the former, through synecdoche.
