I was informed that Bacanora's coat of arms was adopted in 1980 by the teachers Elia Figueroa Benítez and María Emilia Ruiz Duarte, adopted through a call for submissions where teachers participated. According to the Encyclopedia of Municipalities and Delegations of Mexico:

In the upper part the cattle head in this day represents the primary activity of the municipality, and as a principal harvest corn.

In the lower angle, a horizon with a maguey plant (agave yaquiana) represents the third activity, which is the creation of Bacanora mezcal after the distillation of agave.

In the upper left angle is a mountain with the mouth of a mine and its proper tools, furthermore, to represent the fourth activity of the municipality with an approximate total of 50 mining deposits, which primarily have silver, copper, ore and other metals in lower quantities. Circling the drawings is the legend "Unión fuerza y voluntad" [Union, strength, and will] for a better tomorrow." 1627 marks the arrival of the Jesuits.
