The coat of arms of Álamos was adopted during the tenure of Municipal President Humberto Franco (1982-1985). The coat of arms was adopted through an open call for people to design a coat of arms; the design by Prof. Juan Vidal Castillo was chosen by the council. Description according to the Encyclopedia of Municipalities and Delegations of Mexico:
Daniel Rentería, 8 October 2024Taking into account the date of foundation of Alamos (17th century), it chose for its coat of arms the form used in the coats of arms of that time. On the left and right sides, a motto reading "Sonora nace aquí" [Sonora is born here] is used; taking into consideration that Alamos was the first place in Sonora which gained City status, and from here the principal families emigrated to the rest of the entity. In the center of the triangle which universally signifies where God Is, appears the Church, a main symbol of the city. Also visible is the profile of the indigene, which represents our traditions like the dance of the deer and the Sonoran Indian tongue. Above the center, like a sun which illuminates our numismatic world, is the Spanish dollar, one minted which was realized in the House of Currency and is most prized by collectors. Bottom-center, we can observe the doorways with their respective pillars, an architectural legacy of our Spanish colonizers; note that there are six pillars, the number of generations which inhabited Alamos from its foundation to date [clearly it is way more]; between the doorways of the center a ribbon is illustrated which symbolizes the history, saying the first name of Alamos: Real de Minas de la Purísima Concepción de los Alamos [Royal Place of Mines of the Immaculate Conception of the Cottonwood; it should be noted the ribbon only says "Real de Minas"]. In a doorway on the left we see two bayonets, active members in the fight for progress in the Country in which our Alamense people participated. Likewise, in another doorway is a book mentioning the cultural level reached by the people of that period and today. In the upper right portion is the head of a bull, representing cattle-raising: The circle which envelops it signifies the regional climate [sunny]. The upper left section shows us corn and a sesame pod, agricultural products of the region. At the bottom of the coat of arms we can see mining, an activity which has served as foundation for the foundation of the Municipality and today is an important source in the Alamense economy.
