Proletarian Democracy (Democrazia Proletaria, DP) was founded in 1978 by fusion of the parts of several small far-left parties which had founded a same-named coalition in 1975 and took part as such in the 1976 elections. The unified party had operated until 1991, when it merged into the Communist Refoundation Party which had been founded earlier that year.
The flag of Proletarian Democracy was red, charged with the party emblem in
center. The emblem was a golden disc with a black fimbriation, charged with the
outline of a raised fist over the hammer and sickle, both over the globe (only
the meridians and parallels displayed), all between the words DEMOCRAZIA at the
top and PROLETARIA at the bottom, all in black.

In contrast to most Italian party flags of the time, the circular emblem was
not printed directly with the background of the flag, but sewn onto the flag,
and being of a different (stiffer) material. This is clearly visible in all the
photographs of the flag. As usual with Italian political flags, however, the
ratio of the flag and the relative size of the emblem could differ quite a bit.
