Posted on Facebook, in late March 2003, U.S. & Allied military units invaded Iraq to overthrow Saddam Hussain. This is a commemorative flag (after 2008) honoring the Iraqi militiamen at the "Battle of Nasiriyah". This week-long battle occurred as Allied forces fought through Iraqi militia units guarding bridges and overpasses along the main road through the city of Nasiriyah, during the Allied blitzkrieg drive through "Ambush Ally" to capture Baghdad. The slogan reads "Zalm al-Nasiriyah" in Arabic on this flag that resembles the red/white/black colors of the national Iraqi flag. This slogan conjures up a poem written in honor of the Iraqi/Nasiriyah defenders: "Zalm Nasiriyah: we will keep the roots going; Real men of Nasiriya: we will keep the flame lit."
