Overview

The Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) is an intergovernmental organization aiming to strengthen forest cooperation by transforming proven technology and policies into concrete actions in the context of sustainable forest management to address the impact of climate change. (Wikipedia) It promotes cooperation towards achieving the shared Sustainable Development Goals and regional and global forestry objectives and aims to contribute to the global goals of increasing forest cover and implementing the Paris Agreement on climate change (...) AFoCO also became a Permanent Observer to the United Nations General Assembly [in 2020] and an ODA [Official Development Assistance] Eligible International Organization enlisted in the OECD Development Assistance Committee list. (excerpt from their website) It has been established on 22 September 2015 and entered into force on 27 April 2018, in Seoul (RoK), as a continuation and extension of the previous ASEAN-Republic of Korea Forest Cooperation that began in 2011. It currently has 15 Members (Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, South Korea, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam). Malaysia and Singapore are participating as Observers.
