Description of the flag

A new party, evidently allied with the DMK, and led by a film star, uses a red over yellow bicolour, with a white star on the fly of the red field. (See http://www.cinesouth.com/masala/hotnews/new/01092007-6.shtml and http://www.hindu.com/2007/09/01/stories/2007090154280400.htm).

Sarath Kumar launches Akila India Samathuva Makkal Katchi: Sarath Kumar joined DMK, then quit that party and joined ADMK. When he quit this one too, it was evident that he was planning on starting a party himself. Now we know that his new party is called Akila India Samathuva Makkal Katchi and it is AISMK for short. he party was launched at a function at Padmaram Mahal in Vadapalani yesterday. Radhika Sarath lit the lamp and Sarath announced the party name and introduced the party flag.

"This is the start of a new chapter in my life. The party's aim is to create a society without caste differences. The party will uphold Kamaraj's ideals. I have a Kamaraj within me. I will try to establish a govt along his line of thinking," said Sarath as President of the party and his supporters gave him rousing applause all through his speech. This was followed by a Q & A.

The meaning of the flag?
The red color on top is for labour and revolution. The yellow below is for auspiciousness. The star inside the red color symbolizes the radiant sun spreading light all over the world.

It is supposed to be a party for the Nadar community?
This is not only for Nadars but this party will work hard for all in Tamilnadu. The office bearers of the party are from various social segments.

The party name also appears with the first two words translated into English, as All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (same abbreviation), a mixing of languages which is typical for the politics of India.

The flag ratio is almost always equal or close to 2:3, while the color shades may vary somewhat, but red is usually very close to R and yellow is usually Y+. Star size and exact position also may vary, but most frequently, it is as if inscribed in a circle with the diameter equal or close to 5/12 of flag width and centered ad at a point whose distance from the top fly corner is equal or close to 1/4 of flag width [1, 2]. Flag colors are also repeated in the shawls worn by party activists [2, 3], the custom which is sometimes expanded for the ladies into the colors of saris [2].
