Balatonszárszó is a large village along the southern shore of Lake Balaton in Siófok district of Somogy county.
The settlement is part of the Balatonboglár wine region, and belongs to the region of Southern Transdanubia.
The first written mention of the settlement dates back to 1082, with the spelling Zarrosozow, but the village at that time was located 1 km south of its present location.
Szárszó moved to its current location in the more peaceful times following the Rákóczi War of Independence.
The village was the property of the Hunyady family from 1733, along with the surrounding settlements.
On 19th-century maps, the name Szárszó appears everywhere, to which the prefix Balaton was added in 1922.
The settlement was inaugurated as a large village in 1973.

The flag of the settlement is white with its coat of arms placed in the center of the flag. The name is written under the shield in arc with black letters. Ratio is 2:3.
The symbols of municipality were originally adopted by 4/1991. (VII. 11.) issued on 11 July 1991.

The upper part of the shield has three wavy silver bands on a dark blue background, with a golden, radiant sun disk in the middle.
The lower part of the shield shows the above-mentioned motif, a golden vine - with a bunch of grapes and two grape leaves.
A crowned helmet grille with white, yellow, red and blue colors has been placed on the crest of the shield.
The left-hand leaf - tendril is yellow-red, the right-hand one is white-blue.
The white color in the coat of arms symbolizes the village of Balatonszárszó, and the red-blue color symbolizes Somogy county.
The golden vine symbolizes the agricultural character, and the three silver bands with the sun disk symbolizes the resort and tourism character.
