Overview

Berzence is a large village in Csurgó district of Somogy County in south western part of Hungary near to the Croatian border.
Berzence was first mentioned between 1332 and 1337 in the annual papal tithe register with its own parish. It came in the hands of Loránt from the Pécz genus in 1377 whose successors named themselves Lorántfi de Berzence. The Turks made Berzencze the seat of a district and fortified its castle. In 1594, the treasurer György Zrínyi recaptured the castle, but it soon fell into Turkish hands again.
During the winter campaign of 1664, the Christian armies recaptured the castle again. In 1758, the settlement also won a patent for holding national fairs.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the largest owner was Prince Tasziló Festetics, who also had a beautiful castle here, with a pretty guesthouse.

The Flag

The flag of the municipality is blue, divided by a diagonal white band. The coat of arms is located in the upper third of the flag. Only vertical variant is used. Ratio is 1:2.
The original adoption date is unknown for me. The current legislation is Local Government Decree No. 1/2022. (I. 25.) issued on 25 January 2022.

I haven’t found image of flag, so I contacted Mayor’s Office, and I received a picture of it.

A shield divided vertically with blue and red, in the right blue field a silver, a sable diagonally across the right, in the left red field a silver baroque chapel with a green roof standing on a green ground, with a golden cross on the top of the tower. Above the shield a notched wall crown was placed, with five gabled bastions with loopholes.
The coat of arms is defined by the same Local Government Decree.
