Bugyi is a large village in Dabas district of Pest County.
Contrary to popular belief, the place name has no etymological connection to the contemporary Hungarian word "bugyi", meaning panties.
The name of the town first appeared in official documents as Latin “Bevd” in 1321 of a form Budymatheusfelde (translation: Matthew Bugy land).
It is named from the personal names starting with "Bud" (from the verb "to be") of the original Slavic settlers.
In 1395, it was the property of various families. It was destroyed during the Turkish occupation and was even listed among the destroyed settlements in the 1690 census,
only after the peace treaty of Szatmár was it repopulated by the then landlord of the village, János Beleznay.

The flag of the settlement is white with its coat of arms placed in the center of the flag.
The name of the settlement is written above the shield with black letters. Ratio is 1:2.
The flag of municipality was originally adopted by Local Government Decree No. 5/1996.
The current legislation is Local Government Decree No. 32/2001 (XII.13.) issued on 13 December 2001.

The coat of arms is a blue shield with a tree of life on a green hill in the middle, flanked by a ploughshare and a scythe.
Above them are a double river and an eight-pointed star. The star, the tree of life, the ploughshare and the scythe are golden. The double river is silver.
The eight-pointed star is the sign of God, but it also shows the shining morning star: the star of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The river symbolizes the life-giving water, the source. The double river is the symbol of the heavenly source, the Milky Way.
The tree of life symbolizes life originating from God and growing towards the sky. The tree of life has always been at the center of the ancient faith of the Hungarians,
as can be seen in the middle of the old village seal.
The coat of arms was adopted by the same Local Government Decree.
