Békésszentandrás is a large village in Szarvas district of Békés county, in the Southern Great Plain region of south-east Hungary.
Békésszentandrás (Szentandrás) was already inhabited in the árpád period. It got its name from the church that stood here in the 13th century
and was built in honor of the apostle Saint Andrew. Its name was first mentioned in documents in 1297, written as Andree. In 1504 it was written as Túr-Szentandrás.
The settlement around the church, like the neighboring Fejéregyház, probably became uninhabited during the Tatar invasion.
In the spring of 1377, King Louis I gifted the village to the Cuman family called Manalaki. Then in the following century, before 1437, the entire village,
together with the surrounding region, was acquired by János Hunyadi.
In 1596, along with many other settlements in the southern Great Plain, Szentandrás was destroyed. It was later repopulated, but in 1648 it is only mentioned as a village.
The first residents of the resettled village came here in 1719, mostly from Kaba. In 1742, the Lutheran Tots settled in the reduced population of Szentandrás.
The Calvinists built a new church in the southern part of the village in 1803. This is how modern-day Szentandrás was formed.

The coat of arms is a shield, quartered with silver and blue. The silver of the first quarter is divided by two green bands, and on the right side of the resulting bands is a silver Andrew's cross with a green border. In the blue of the second and third quarters, a two-tailed silver lion armed with gold turns left, looks left, and steps left while floating, raising a three-pointed, open, gold-leafed crown in its left paw. The silver of the fourth quarter is again divided by two green silver bands, and on each band is a silver arrowhead pointing right with its tip the width of the band (the conventional symbol of waterworks). The heart shield is silver, on which a black raven turns right and looks, floating with a gold ring in its beak.
Above the shield, a highly stylized five-pointed (two acorns between three oak leaves) gold crown is depicted, unfolding from gold ribbons.
Under the shield, on a richly flourishing golden ribbon, a golden lion armed with gold stands like supporters.
Under the ribbon, the inscription "Békésszentandrás" is written with gold letters.
The coat of arms was adopted by the same Local Government Decree.
