In Orléans, yhe former General Council used two flags (photo):
- a blue flag with the emblem of the department, a stylized yellow fleur-de-lis, recalling the traditional arms of the Duchy of Orléans (Orléanais) surmounting the writing "le Loiret" in white and two white waves, representing the Loire;
- a yellow flag charged in the center with a square version of the aforementioned flag, and, below, the writing "Conseil Général", in blue.

A white flag charged with the department's greater arms was seen in August 2008 inside the General Council's building.

The coat of arms of Loiret was assigned by Jacques Meurgey de Tupigny & Robert Louis in Marques symboliques des départements français as "Azure a fess wavy argent surrounded by three fleurs-de-lis or placed 2 an 1 in chief a label argent".
The three departments set up from the province of Orléanais are represented by the provincial arms ("Azure three fleurs-de-lis placed 2 and 1 in chief a label argent"), each with a distinctive charge. Here the fess wavy represents river Loire, which crosses the department from east to west.
