Symbols of Génave

The Municipality of Génave in the Province of Jaén, Andalusia, has its own symbols, but date of their adoption is unknown.

  • Coat of arms:

Description: Quarterly. First, Or, a Gules axe. Second, Azure, a pine tree Vert, trunked, on a proper terrace. Third, Argent, a lion Gules. Fourth, Azure, a key Or, palewise, the eye facing chief. Overall, a Cross of Santiago Gules.
Meaning: The axe or scythe symbolizes the strong and "secure" location, used to defend against the Moors of Granada. The pine tree represents the abundant forests of the Sierra. The lion in the third quarter may have been taken from the arms of Archbishop Pedro Tenorio of Toledo, who may have granted some privilege to the town, although this is not confirmed. The key symbolizes an advanced, borderland area, a guard against the Muslim threat, while the Cross of Santiago represents the enclave's membership in this military order. The pine tree and the axe also appear on the coat of arms of Segura de la Sierra.

  • Flag:

White field divided in eight triangles - clockwise, upper half olive-white-green-white, continuing olive-white-green-white. In the middle of the flag, municipal coat of arms in white quadrant.
NOTE: Flag is not mentioned in Simbolos de Jaén website, but two users in Wikipedia - Albertroger in 2010, and Sebastian Wallroth in 2024 - claim there is a flag for this municipality.
