Symbols of Pórtugos

The Municipality of Portugos in the Province of Granada, Andalucia, has its own symbols. The coat of arms was approved by the General Directorate of Local Administration on 28.10.2004, and the flag was chosen by popular vote in July 2019.

  • Coat of arms:

Description: Shield divided horizontally, First, argent, a spindle sable with a skein vert placed horizontally. Second, vert, a fountain with five spouts argent. Crested with a closed royal crown.
Meaning: The spindle is reminiscent of the traditional silk industry . The boxed design refers to the toponym ("portus", port or pass between mountains). The fountain is reminiscent of the Fuente Agria, a spring of ferruginous waters.

  • Flag:

Description: Rectangular flag composed of three vertical stripes, green on the outside and white on the outside, and of double width, the central one bearing the municipal coat of arms and below it five orange circles.
