The emblem corresponds to the family crest of the old Stauffacher family from Steinen (died out in the 16th century). On April 22, 1946, the municipal assembly decided to honor the great merits of the Stauffacher family in the founding of the Swiss Confederation. It chose the historically authenticated coat of arms of this family as the official emblem of Steinen.
