Argent an Angle Plate Gules in bend sinister.

The angle in the emblem has a military
background: According to a source from 1689, the Thal district communes were assigned to the Fourth and
Fifth Company of the Second Regiment of Solothurn's militia army. The figure 4 at that time was written
like an 8 open at the bottom; the figure 5 resembled an angle. The most emblems of the Thal district show
either derivations of the figure 4 (Balsthal,
Laupersdorf) or 5 (Aedermannsdorf, Herbetswil,
Matzendorf, Welschenrohr).
