Flag use

Dubai is the only emirate which seems to ever use its flag. The Dubai flag is flown almost always, together with the national flag. However in other emirates, only the national flag is used. I have seen the Abu Dhabi flag, but only on a few boats.

A note in Album des Pavillons 2000 explains that the flag is flown together with the Union flag.

Emblem

On March 17, 2024, the Dubai government announced the launch of a new version of the emblem. Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Dubai, approved the design and signed the new emblem in person. Sheikh Hamdan said that the new Dubai emblem revitalized Dubai’s iconic old emblem. The new logo symbolizes the emirate's visionary leadership, transformative development journey, and evolution into a city of the future.

The new Dubai emblem is optimized based on the original emblem. In addition to removing the ribbon with the word Dubai below, the falcon, sailboat, palm and the Dubai flag on both sides (the new version removes the red tassel at the top of the flagpole) are still retained, and the overall design is much rounder than the original.

The elements of Dubai government’s identity include falcon as the symbol of pride and sharp vision, as well as the palm as the symbol of generosity and giving, and the boat as the symbol of goodness.
