Description of the flag

The county has a flag, and there are two copies on display - one flies in front of the Butler County Courthouse and one in front of the Butler County Prison. The County flag has the county seal on a white field. The seal on the flag has a yellow outer ring with the words County of Butler in dark blue letters curving along on the upper part of the ring and the word Pennsylvania in dark blue letters curving along on the lower part. Also, there are a complete circle of yellow triangle shaped points along the outside edge of the gold circle.

I have some information about a flag that was carried by that city's Butler Senior High School Golden Tornado Marching Band from the 1940s to the 1960s. The flag was a gold field with a darker gold fringe. In the center of the field was a circle inside of which was a coat of arms very similar to, but not identical to the coat of arms of Butler County, Pennsylvania. Above the circle was a large scroll that said "Butler" and beneath the circle was another large scroll with the words "High School". The font was a bit fancy and interesting as well.

A photo of the flag that appeared on the cover of the October 1947 issue of the school's newsletter "The Magnet", as well as a photo of the band's color guard with the flag from the school's 1968 Magnet Yearbook, a color still image of the flag from a home movie of the band marching in a parade and an image of the county coat of arms (above). The coat of arms on the flag is similar, but not identical; the eagle, i.e., faces left on the county arms but faces right on the flag. The eagle is surmounted on a sailing ship, over a plow, with three bushels of hay in the bottom panel of the arms. I do not know if this was the "official" flag of Butler Senior High School or just one made especially for the band.
