Description of the flag
Sec 1-15 of the City Code is as follows:
A city flag is adopted and shall
be of the following design and dimensions. Its dimensions shall be five feet fly
by three feet hoist and the field of the same shall be white with a flaming
torch in gold or buff in the middle. The flame shall be encircled in red and
there shall be a white star outlined in blue in the handle of the torch. The
torch shall be placed over a shield, the top of which shall be blue, on which
there shall be three white stars on each side of the torch. There shall be two
red stripes on a field of white in the lower part of the shield on each side of
the torch; the shield shall be outlined in blue. Surrounding the shield and
torch shall be two narrow circles in gold or buff separated by a small white
stripe, and approximately three inches beyond this inner circle shall be two
other narrow circles in gold or buff separated by a small white stripe. In the
white field between these sets of circles shall be 19 green maple leaves
situated so as to fill the entire space between the two sets of circles. At the
top of the circle in blue there shall be the words "The City of LaPorte." At the
bottom in blue shall be the words: "The Door to the Future."
Ordinance
1514 adopted this city flag as official in 1976, the Bicentennial year.
The mis-spelling of the word FUTURE (as FUTUE) is found on the original image,
and apparently approved by the city.
Daniel Rentería, 11 June 2024I’ve seen two flags and double-checked to
make sure the text reads “FUTURE”.
