The name of the municipality means "churches on Gorenjska", Gorenjska being the "highlands" located north-west of Slovenia. Usually only the first part of name is mentioned when there is no possibility of confusion (even once in the Decision mentioned below).
Željko Heimer, 24 September 1999
The coat of arms and flag are prescribed by Decision Odlok o simbolih občine Cerklje na Gorenjskem, adopted on 15 May 1995 and published in the official gazette of Gorenjska Uradni vestnik Gorenjske, 10/XXVIII, 30 May 1995.
The flag is horizontal divided blue-yellow-blue, based on the municipal coat of arms. The flag proportions are not defined in the Decision, and Stanič & Jakopič [j2s05] show the flag in proportions 3:5.
The colours are determined by Pantone system as follows:
- Blue: Process Blue U 100%
- Yellow: Process Yellow U 100%.
The symbols were designed by Janez Močnik, awarded a muniicpal award for his lifetime achievement as a composer and visual artist.
