It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of green and yellow.

Shield Argent, three ananas fruits Or, ordered 2:1, leaved and lined Vert, in chief a goshawk Proper, holding in his claws an inescutcheon Azure, charged with five plates in quincunx. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "FAJÃ DE BAIXO".
Meaning:
The goshawk is a local symbol of the Açores. The quina is a national symbol.
