Arca e Varzielas was formed in 2013, when its former communes merged. They had together 718 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 20.3 km², being the southern exclave of the municipality.

Shield Or with base wavy of Argent and Azure, two cowls Sable ordered per fess, in chief two keys Purpure, crossed per saltire and tied Gules, issuant from base a triplemount Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "VARZIELAS - OLIVEIRA DE FRADES".
Meaning:
The crossed keys are an attribute of St. Peter, the local patron saint.
