It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and blue.

Shield Azure with base wavy of Argent and Azure, carrying a boat Or, in centre two seagulls volant Argent beaked Or, in central chief a crescent recumbent Argent. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "PRAIA DE MIRA".
Meaning:
The crescent recumbent might be an attribute of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, the local patron saint.
