Shield Gules over a base wavy of Argent and Vert, a suspension bridge issuant Or, in chief a demi-cogwheel Or crowned by a chapel Argent . Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading "ALCÂNTARA" in black upper case letters.
Meaning:
The bridge is Ponte 25 de Abril, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world (2278 m).

Presentation of Alcântara

Alcântara (from Arab al-qantarat, "the bridge") is one of the 24 communes of Lisboa Municipality. It had 13 911 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 4,41 km². Here in 1580 the Spanish troops defeated the Portuguese troops of António I and the Spanish rule over Portugal for 60 years began.
