It is a slightly untypical Portuguese communal flag. The arms are centred on a field quartered of white and green (town rank).

The arms are green a belfry Argent masoned Sable with port and windows Sable, with roof Or and weathervane Argent. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll in black upper case letters reading "MONSANTO - IDANHA-A-NOVA".
Meaning:
It is the belfry of the local Church of Mercy (Igreja da Misericórdia).

Monsanto was one of the communes of Idanha-a-Nova Municipality. It had 829 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 132.0 km².

Shield Argent, a fess embattled Gules, masoned Or with port Or, in chief an or orbicular cross Gules at dexter and a cross patty Gules, charged with a Greek cross Argent, at sinister, in base an eradicated fig tree Vert fruited Purpure. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "IDANHA-A-VELHA".
The crosses are those of the Templars and the Knights of Christ.
