Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "SANTIAGO - ARMAMAR".
Meaning:
The name of this commune is the well known contraction of the archaic "Santo Iago" ("Saint James"), later reanalysed as "São Tiago", yelding the given name "Tiago" (long story short, the same mechanism yielded the Spanish given name "Diego" and thence the Portuguese given name "Diogo"). The pilgrim staff on the coat of arms is canting for this original meaning, refering to the Way of Saint James.
